Homeopathic Remedies for Lewy Bodies Dementia Hallucinations

One of the most annoying "features" of Lewy Bodies Dementia are the vivid hallucinations.  Care Givers around the globe have to be creative in order to help calm our loved one.  Some times when my mom is extremely agitated I will give her a little bit of a homeopathic remedy.

We use a few.

Insomnia or Sleep Disturbances

Bach's Rescue Remedy.  This is made from the essence of flowers.   It comes in a dropper bottle as well as a spray bottle.  I find the spray much easier to administer.  It works fast.  I use it for myself too so that I remain calm.   Remaining calm as a Care Giver is very important.

Hallucinations that are Frightening

Helleborus Niger 30 C.  You can buy little pellets that my mom likes to refer to as "the candy."  She takes them sublingual, under the tongue until they dissolve.  This works to clear up confusion and helped her scary hallucinations to stop.

"I WANT TO GO HOME"

When my mom Says, "I want to go home," it usually means that she's agitated or upset about something.  She isn't feeling safe and secure, something is upsetting her.

Hyoscyamus Niger 12 C.  This homeopathic remedy I give to my mom when she's agitated.  When she says, "I want to go home" and she's already home, it can be disturbing.

I give her an eye dropper full of a tincture in a little water; I make it by putting 5 pellets into a dropper bottle (1 oz bottle with an eye dropper cap) fill it with water and let it dissolve.  Refrigerate the bottle, it makes it taste less bad.

Once my mom takes an eye dropper full of the tincture in a little bit of water, we take her out for a ride and when we get back to the house, she realizes that she's home.  She is in a more pleasant state of mind where confusion is erased and peace is restored.

  1. In your case (and probably others as well) being a care giver requires you to be a bit of a magician as well. Knowing which rabbit to pull out of your bag of "tricks" must be an on-going challenge. Too bad a plain old "Abracadabra" can't make all her problems go away!

  4. My mom is 95 years old. She is unable to stand under her own power now because of a broken hip several years ago which was not replaced, but rather "pinned". It has now deteriorated making walking impossible. Her cognitive decline has been slow until the last few months when the delusions and hallucinations began. The nights are becoming almost impossible and we DO NOT WANT TO SUBMIT HER TO CONVENTIONAL MEDICINE WHICH DOES NOT WORK! I NEED HELP to walk this road with her and keep her home with us. I am a retired osteopath, but being a daughter is difficult now. I have used Valerian for anxiety, but the rebound caused hallucinations. I have the Bach remedy but when she is so out of control, what do I do? I do not want her to hurt herself or her caregivers. I am new to your blog. Can you please give me some guidance. She has not been formally diagnosed, but of course I feel this is a vascular dementia because there is evidence of mini-strokes. Thank you for any help or direction to help.

  5. RJ... Do you have a naturopath doctor in your area that you can bring your mom? My mom's ND is super, he has helped my mom a lot. My mom also has acupuncture twice a week. It is amazing how well it works for her, helping her to find her words and communicate. You can write me on my personal email so that I can address your questions. Cognifactor is what my mom takes for cognition - it helps a lot.

I've also found that cutting out simple carbs helps my mom have better days and nights too. I found that anything white... potatoes, pasta, breads - all bring on crazy behaviors.

Write to me on my email and I will answer your questions. I have written about everything but there's a lot to sift through.
